President Trump revealed a new plan on January 28 during a meeting at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida with Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
The “good and cordial meeting” between Trump and McCarthy led to an agreement: Trump has committed to helping the GOP take back the House in the midterm elections in 2022.
Trump’s Plan
“President Trump has agreed to work with Leader McCarthy on helping the Republican Party to become a majority in the House. They worked very well together in the last election and picked up at least 15 seats when most predicted it would be the opposite. They will do so again, and the work has already started,” the pro-Trump Save America PAC said in a statement after the meeting.
Prior to this meeting, many on the right believed that Trump’s only plan was to create a new political party and run again in 2024 under that party, but it seems that these rumors were incorrect.
Though conservatives believe that the Republican Party has failed them, and that they deserve to be pushed out by a third party, the truth is that the creation of a third party would only divide up Republican votes, allowing the Democrats to win nearly every race.
McCarthy’s Response
In a statement about the meeting, McCarthy said, “Today, President Trump committed to helping elect Republicans in the House and Senate in 2022. A Republican majority will listen to our fellow Americans and solve the challenges facing our nation. Democrats, on the other hand, have only put forward an agenda that divides us — such as impeaching a President who is now a private citizen and destroying blue-collar energy jobs. For the sake of our country, the radical Democrat agenda must be stopped.”
“A united conservative movement will strengthen the bonds of our citizens and uphold the freedoms our country was founded on,” he added.
