Labor Secretary Marty Walsh locked-down records that revealed the Boston police union knew about criminal sexual activities committed by a leading official who was later found guilty of raping six children on April 29th. The conviction of Patrick Rose on 21 counts related to sexual assault of minors puts the spotlight on Walsh, who as Boston’s mayor obstructed records revealing the city’s police department knew about Rose’s sexual criminal offenses for years. The records, which were launched by Walsh’s followers, are harming the city’s effective cops union, which was led by the now-convicted kid rapist throughout Walsh’s period as mayor.
After Rose’s 2020 arrest for kid rape, the Boston Globe asked for records of a 1995 cops department examination into sexual assault accusations versus the then-patrolman. “A Boston police officer swore in an affidavit that Walsh was aware of domestic abuse allegations against former police commissioner Dennis White when the former mayor appointed him to the position. Walsh suspended White after the Globe reported on the accusations, but the mayor claimed he was unaware of the allegations.”
Walsh postponed an investigation into White, which was launched one day after a Senate panel advanced Walsh’s appointment as head of the Labor Department. Then-Suffolk County district attorney Rachael Rollins (D.), who now works as Biden’s U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, openly implicated Walsh of either “lying” or committing gross incompetence over the White scandal.
The records on Rose reveal the union battled to have him removed from desk work after the investigation into his sexual assault. The Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association threatened to submit a complaint on his behalf, according to the records. He went on to work as an officer for more than twenty years, ultimately ending up being president of the police union from 2014 to 2017, prior to his retirement in 2018.
Rose pleaded guilty to 21 counts of kid rape and sexual assault and was sentenced to 10 to 13 years in prison along with 10 years of probation.
